What cookies we use on this website, why, and how you can control them.
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They're used to make websites work, to make them work better, and to give the website owner information about how people use the site.
We group the cookies on this website into two categories. You can accept or reject non-essential categories through the cookie banner when you first visit, or by clicking “Manage cookies” in the footer at any time.
These cookies are needed for the website to work. They do not track you and cannot be turned off.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
whe_consent | This site | Stores your cookie choice so we don't ask again on every page. | 180 days |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | WordPress | Only set if you log into the WordPress admin. Not set for normal website visitors. | Session – 1 year |
These help us understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how long people stay, where they come from. We use Google Analytics 4 loaded via Google Site Kit. These cookies are only set if you click “Accept all” on the banner; if you reject, they aren't set and any that were previously set are deleted.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes unique visitors. | 2 years |
_ga_XXXXXXXX | Google Analytics 4 | Maintains session state for GA4. | 2 years |
_gid | Google Analytics (legacy) | Distinguishes unique visitors (may not be set under GA4). | 24 hours |
We don't currently run marketing or advertising cookies, and we don't embed YouTube videos, Google Maps or social feeds on this site. If we add any in future, we'll update this page and the cookie banner so they can be accepted or rejected separately.
Google Fonts are loaded from Google's CDN for typography. Google may log the IP address used to request the font file (standard for any CDN). No cookies are set by Google Fonts.
You can change your cookie choice at any time via the Manage cookies link in the footer. You can also delete cookies from within your browser settings — see aboutcookies.org for step-by-step guidance for each browser.
We respect the spirit of browser “Do Not Track” signals: analytics cookies are off by default, and we only set them after you've explicitly accepted them on the banner.
For more about how we handle personal data generally, see our Privacy Policy. If you have any questions about cookies on this site, contact us on 01489 666383 or via the contact page.
